The School of Translation Studies Conducts Undergraduate Thesis and Design Defense for the Class of 2023

On May 9-12, the School of Translation Studies conducted the defense of 2023 undergraduate thesis and design. All 193 graduates, dividing into 9 groups, participated in the defense.

Before the defense, associate dean Zhang Rui held a meeting on the related work of the defense. She specified the workflow and emphasized precautions of the defense to all the teachers, and comprehensively planned the defense to ensure a smooth and orderly development of the defense work.

The School of Translation Studies aims to cultivate students’ translation practice ability. During the defense, students presented their graduation translation practice results to the defense judges through PPT and oral presentations in terms of the background of the paper, the purpose and significance of the research, the literature review, the structure of the paper, the paper’s conclusions and suggestions, innovations and shortcomings. The judges of the defense team made professional and pertinent comments on the students’ papers, pointed out the problems, and also put forward suggestions. The students answered the questions raised by the judges in time and recorded the subsequent modifications of their papers. The defense process fully reflects the academic atmosphere. Meanwhile, the judges’ humorous questions injects some joyful flavor to the tense defense.

The defense was well organized, and the teachers shared the students valuable experience and professional advice with their knowledge and expertise. Meanwhile, our branch encourages freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to attend the defense, so that they can feel the atmosphere of the graduation defense in advance and understand the requirements of thesis writing, which can help them accumulate experience in writing and defending thesis in the future, as well as pointing out the direction of their future learning goals and career development.

Graduation thesis defense is not only one of the important links of education and teaching activities but also a process for students to communicate with their teachers to improve themselves. This graduation defense will let the graduates deeply recognize their own shortcomings, give them a clearer understanding of their following development, and also lay a good foundation for their choice of future path.
