The School of English Studies and The School of Translation Studies Held a Meeting for Undergraduate Education and Teaching Evaluation

The School of English Studies and the School of Translation Studies held the Undergraduate Education and Teaching Assessment Meeting in the afternoon of March 10 in line with the spirit of Xi’an Fanyi University’s 2023 Spring Semester Cadre Conference and Undergraduate Education and Teaching Evaluation Meeting. Yuan Xiaolu, Dean of the School of English Studies and The School of Translation Studies, Fan Lei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of English Studies and assistant dean, Li Yan, assistant dean, Li Xianhua, assistant dean, Jiang Xiaojun, Secretary of the Party Committee and assistant dean of School of Translation Studies, Zhang Rui, assistant dean, and other members of the leadership team, department chairpersons, representatives of the faculty members, and members of the Administrative Office participated in the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Li Xianhua.

At the meeting, Li Yan mainly conveyed the spirit of the work report of Headmaster Cui Zhilin’s “Being United, Remaining Committed, and Striving to Promote High -quality-development University” to all participants. She retold the Headmaster Cui’s summary of 2022’s work, new arrangement of 2023, and the highlight of Evaluation tasks. She also put forward two requirements on how to implement the spirit of Headmaster Cui Zhilin’s report. Li Yan stressed that, firstly, we should closely combine the actual situation of education and teaching work in the university, and at the beginning of the school year, we should think about how to comprehensively implement the spirit of the report in the process of making plans, drawing up programs, organizing teaching and implementing management. Secondly, we should effectively take classroom teaching as the main channel, improve teaching quality on a large scale, and take the teaching evaluation as an opportunity to promote the work with high standards and quality.

The assistant dean Zhang Rui explained in detail the requirements of undergraduate education and the Evaluation, and deployed the teaching work in this semester. Zhang focused on the guiding ideology of the teaching assessment work, and also its objectives, assessment focus, core tasks and structure, and work progress. She also clarified the main work and division of labor of the assessment work. Zhang Rui demanded all teachers to deeply understand the connotation requirements of the evaluation system, to seriously carry out the self-assessment report writing and preparation of related materials against the Evaluation system, and to adopt the correct working method, so as to complete the Evaluation work in an orderly manner.

Yuan Xiaolu first summarized the achievements of the two colleges in 2022, and then made the next deployment for the Evaluation. Yuan Xiaolu pointed out that the Evaluation is a “touchstone” to test the undergraduate education and cultivation system of the university. The university has gathered all the teachers and students to do a lot of work for this Evaluation. He also mentioned the conference held the day before, and pointed out that the conference represents the beginning of the Evaluation. In the next, Dean Yuan put forward the following two expectations. First, teachers should deeply understand the significance of the Evaluation to improve the cognition of the related work, and transform from the “passive state” to the “active state”. Secondly, teachers should carefully plan and prepare for the Evaluation, strive to achieve the behavioral norms of education and teaching process management, and continuously improve the connotation construction of education and teaching. Teachers should complete the work of filling in basic data, writing self-assessment reports, organizing supporting materials, and improving the teaching conditions of their projects with a high sense of responsibility and mission. All the teachers should greet the Evaluation with an open mind, and take the assessment as an opportunity to promote national first-class majors in the two colleges.
