Excellence Recently, Zhang Hao, a student from the 2022 cohort majoring in English (International Communication) and a member of the Language Practice Workshop of our college, participated in the internship for the “Seminar on Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction for Officials from Shanghai Cooperation Organization Countries.” Hosted by the Department of Foreign Aid of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and undertaken by the International Exchange Center of the Yangling Demonstration Zone, the event was held from May 12 to 30, 2025.
Using English, Korean, and Russian, Zhang Hao, as a Chinese administrator, communicated with 52 officials from over 10 countries. From curriculum arrangement to simultaneous interpretation, he successfully completed various tasks. During the discussion on agricultural poverty reduction strategies, his accurate translation and facilitation of exchanges won high recognition from officials of multiple countries.
Such outstanding achievements derive from solid accumulation. Zhang Hao has won multiple honors, including the third prize in the provincial “FLTRP·Guocai Cup” English Speech Contest. As an extension and expansion of classroom teaching, Workshop of English Language Practices has laid a solid foundation for comprehensively improving students’ language skills, cognitive thinking, social communication skills, and cross-cultural literacy. Under the guidance of Professor Li Yan, Associate Dean of the School of English, he has deeply integrated theory with practice.
“The training in the workshop makes me more composed in facing international occasions,” Zhang Hao said. This internship has enhanced his cross-cultural communication ability and international vision. His excellent performance vividly demonstrates the fruitful results of the School of English’s “classroom+practice” collaborative education model. In the future, more students from our college will step onto the international stage from here to boost China-foreign exchanges.
