Recently, the professional internship of the 2022-level undergraduate students majoring in business English in the Business English Department of School of English Language and Culture was successfully concluded. This internship was conducted at Shaanxi Longxing New Materials Technology Co., Ltd.. A total of 63 students participated in two batches. The aim was to broaden students’ professional horizons, gain a deeper understanding of the actual operation of the industry, combine the theoretical knowledge learned in class with practice, enhance students’ professional practical abilities, and lay a solid foundation for their future career development.
It is reported that Shaanxi Longxing New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 2005. It is an enterprise with a wide range of business operations, covering multiple fields such as the sales of Christmas trees and Christmas festival decorations, product research and development, and technical services. The company enjoys a high reputation in the industry. Its business not only covers the domestic market but also is exported to more than 80 countries and regions around the world, achieving good market feedback and brand reputation in the international market.
During the internship, students delved into various departments of the enterprise and learned about the entire industrial chain process from raw material procurement, product production to sales and after-sales service. The business manager and some key employees of the company gave the students a detailed explanation and training on the practical operation skills of the main cross-border e-commerce businesses, including the back-end operation of Alibaba International Station, advertising production and release, document preparation, letter writing, live streaming on cross-border e-commerce platforms and other business sections. They also vividly demonstrated the practical application of business English in daily work by combining actual cases. In addition, the company arranged training on job-hunting skills, interview experience, and workplace etiquette for students to help them better adapt to the future workplace environment.
It is worth noting that during the live-streaming exercise, the students made full use of the business English knowledge they had learned, introduced the features, advantages and usage methods of the products to overseas audiences in fluent English, interacted with the audiences and answered their questions. From product display, selling point explanation to promotion activity introduction, the students showed professionalism and confidence. Although they encountered some challenges during the live-streaming, such as network latency and the accuracy of language expression, the students actively responded and adjusted in time to ensure the smooth progress of the live-streaming.
After the internship, the person in charge of the foreign trade business department of Longxing Company highly praised the performance of the students, believing that the students’ professional qualities and practical abilities exceeded expectations and also brought new ideas and vitality to the company’s product promotion. The company also arranged experienced foreign trade personnel to guide the students, shared the skills and experience of cross-border e-commerce live-streaming, and helped the students better understand industry needs and market trends.
Currently, more than 20 employees of the company graduated from Xi’an Fanyi University, majoring in Business English, English, Translation, and International Trade. Among them, Li Rui and other students from the first graduating class of the Business English have taken on leadership positions in the company’s departments, and many graduates have become the backbone of the company’s business, which fully reflects the remarkable achievements of Xi’an Fanyi University in cultivating applied and composite senior professionals.
Through this internship, students not only deeply understood the development history, operation steps, and other specific situations of foreign trade companies, improved their understanding and application ability of business English professional knowledge, but also had a clearer understanding of their future career plans. The students said that this internship has benefited them a lot. In future studies, they will pay more attention to the cultivation of practical abilities and make full preparations for smoothly entering the workplace in the future.
This internship activity is an important part of School of English Language and Culture’s practical teaching system. In the future, the School will continue to strengthen cooperation with enterprises, provide students with more high-quality internship opportunities, constantly improve students' comprehensive quality and employment competitiveness, and cultivate more applied business English talents that meet the needs of society.
