Focusing on New Directions in the AI Era and Serving National Strategic Demands -- School of English Language and Culture Held a Seminar on the Development of Foreign Language Disciplines

To proactively align with national strategic demands, actively respond to the challenges of the AI era, and scientifically plan the future development path of foreign language disciplines, on June 13th, School of English Language and Culture of our university successfully held a seminar on the development of foreign language disciplines. The seminar invited Professor Dang Zhengsheng, the former vice president of Xi’an International Studies University, Professor Zhao Yihui, the dean of the School of Advanced Translation at Xi’an International Studies University, and Professor Wu Li, the director of the Development Planning Office of University of International Business and Economics, among other senior experts, to provide guidance. The university’s chairman, Ding Jing, honorary president, Zhong Weihé, president, Cui Zhilin, vice presidents, Wu Zhongyuan and Wang Lixiao, deputy director of the Scientific Research Office, Zhang Ying, and the dean of School of English Language and Culture, Yuan Xiaolu, along with some key teachers, attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by vice president Wu Zhongyuan.

The seminar focused on the future development of foreign language disciplines, discussing the transformation and development directions and implementation paths of English-related majors at School of English Language and Culture under the background of the rapid development of international communication and AI technology. Yuan Xiaolu first reported to the attending leaders and experts on the current situation, shortcomings, and future development plans of the related majors at the school.

Subsequently, the experts, based on current national strategic demands, discipline frontiers, and social development trends, provided valuable constructive opinions and forward-looking guidance on the necessity, feasibility, and distinctive development paths of the transformation and development of English-related majors. They emphasized the importance of technology empowerment for the development of disciplines and majors.

Finally, Chairman Ding Jing delivered an important speech. She highly praised the significance of this seminar, pointing out that in the context of the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the increasing prominence of national strategic demands, the transformation and upgrading of foreign language disciplines are imperative. She noted that the development ideas of School of English Language and Culture’s disciplines closely follow the pulse of the times and are in line with the university’s development positioning and the mission of serving the local economy and culture. She hopes that the school will take this seminar as an opportunity to reach a consensus, be courageous in innovation, and strive to build the foreign language discipline into a high-level discipline with distinct characteristics, prominent advantages, and the ability to serve national and regional development, making new contributions to enhancing the university’s overall educational strength and domestic and international influence.
